Pictish Wall Cross
The Picts were a powerful tribe who once lived north of the River Clyde in Scotland.
It is believed that they were converted to Christianity sometime in the 6th century.
The name comes from the latin word Picti meaning painted people. These people were
remarkable stone carvers and combined their animal symbolisn with Christain symbolism
to create ingenious cross slabs.
This cross design is from a slab now in a museum in Meigle, Scotland.
