RUNES

To the tribes that roamed the european regons during prehistoric times, Runes were mystical symbols representing the natural gods.
Runes then were signs of nature. Mysterious and powerful signs when used as motifs on jewelry, clothing, tools and weapons.
Acting as signs and talismen.
As boundary symbols on rocks, stones and bridges.
When incised on sword hilts the weapon acquired magical demonic powers. A stick, a rock carrying a Rune symbol became a fatal weapon.
Then, much later, during the early middle ages, Runes were used as charms by the peasant people. As tokens by monks who used them to form secret codes, as well as the set-up for riddles and games.
It was during this period that Runemal evolved. The casting of the runes for fortune telling purposes. Certain runes could be used for "luck", for influencing weather, harvests as well as for casting spells and other needs.
With the passage of time, the Runes became standardized. In some locales, they numbered 36, while in other places there were 16. Ultimately, 24 were chosen. to be the futhark. These are divided into three families, named as the Norse gods:

Freyr, Hagal and Tyr.

The 25th Rune - Odin "the Unknowing and Unseen" was added later

OGHAMS

The Druids of Celtic Gaul committed vast amounts of literature to memory. Writing was a taboo; considered to be a vulgarization of the "eloquent" or word from the lips. The Celtic alphabet known as ogham (oh'-ahm) was, according to the Irish Book of Ballymote introduced by Ogma Sun Face. Ogma Sun Face erected 4 pillars of equal length and inscribed the leters upon these pillars.

Among the Druids, ogham was a form of "secret sign language", for their exclusive use only.

It was not until the end of the Druid era that ogham began to appear in written form in public. Most of this alphabet appears along with its corresponding Latin counterpart on monuments and marker stones
